Delivering on the Mission to Provide Reliable Care and Medical Readiness

Military Medicine is an Aircraft Carrier Sized Health System.

It is undeniable that the Military Health System (MHS) is a gigantic enterprise. In terms of size, one might say it has the scale of an aircraft carrier when compared to most other health systems that exist in the United States today. It also has an amazingly complex mission when it comes to providing medical care, and it spans from projecting medical and lifesaving capabilities into the field, the air, and the sea, to providing care to the families of our active-duty service members. The operational challenges of such a large enterprise put a heavy burden on leaders to implement strategies that enable the continuous improvement of processes and systems to achieve objectives for healthcare quality and medical readiness.

The Federal government is also putting pressure on the services to reduce the overall costs of the military medical system and to develop performance advantages through interoperability between the branches. These kinds of enterprise efforts certainly require domain expertise, but we believe that knowledge must be combined with the right mix of facilitative, analytical, and management know-how to be successful.

Pursuing Excellence in Operational Medicine

We aim to bring innovative ideas and talented professionals to the kinds of Joint Military Health efforts that optimize operational medicine, force health protection, and force readiness – ultimately, the warfighter depends on these initiatives that focus on the projection of medical power and the enhancement of survivability. More recently, our efforts have expanded beyond the Military Treatment Facility (MTF) and into the field where process and cross-functional collaboration can bring significant improvements to key measures of performance in the operational medicine environment.

Unique Capabilities. Unique Perspective.

NOVACES has developed a unique perspective across the MHS because of our history supporting Performance Improvement from the Military Treatment Facility up through regional commands, on up to the headquarters. Our team supports transformation efforts across the MHS by deploying proven capabilities to align frontline performance with enterprise medical readiness objectives. Wondering how we’ve impacted the MHS?

Process Improvement Optimization

Streamlining workflows, reducing cycle times (e.g., for lab results, appointments, claims), improving efficiency, and optimizing processes (e.g., procurement, training, inventory management).

Medical Readiness & Training

Improving training, screening and health assessment compliance rates for various medical readiness elements related to deployability (e.g., IMR, BLS, ALS, TCCC).

Compliance & Documentation

Maximizing compliance with DoD and medical regulations, standards, and protocols, as well as enhancing documentation practices and accuracy. Examples include medication administration documentation, overseas screening compliance, and data quality control projects.

Access to Care

Improving access to medical services, reducing wait times, and streamlining appointment scheduling processes.

Supply Chain Optimization

Reducing overstock and waste, optimizing procurement processes, and improving supply availability.

Technology Implementation & Knowledge Management

Developing and implementing new tools, dashboards, and software, automating processes, and leveraging technology for improved efficiency and communication.

Healthcare Quality & Patient Safety

Improving healthcare quality metrics (e.g., HEDIS measures, patient satisfaction), reducing medical errors, improving patient safety protocols (e.g., hand hygiene, bar code medication administration), and enhancing communication related to patient care.

Facility & Equipment Management

Optimizing medical equipment utilization and workflows, improving facility maintenance, and improving healthcare space layout and organization.

Measurable Results for a Critical Mission.
