The five-year contract, which began in December 2009, has a total program ceiling of $1.27 billion.



The HRSolutions Program Office’s mission is to provide support to the full life cycle of non-personal personnel services and support to Defense personnel communities. The training simulation called MediSim provides hands-on experience during training courses to teach how Lean Six Sigma tools are used to improve patient care processes in hospitals

The Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) will support the ongoing DLA headquarter-sponsored Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) / Lean Six Sigma (LSS) initiative.

The annual honors and awards ceremony celebrates student achievement

Over 180 students, faculty and guests attended the ceremony that was held on campus in the Homer L. Hitt Alumni & Visitors Center.

The program recognized undergraduate and graduate engineering students for academic scholarship, emerging talent and contributions to the University’s collegiate community. Numerous awards were presented in disciplines ranging from electrical and mechanical engineering to naval architecture and marine engineering. 



Amid the celebrations, the accomplishments of two outstanding individuals received awards sponsored by NOVACES. Undergraduate Ray Clements was awarded the NOVACES Capstone Design Award in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and in the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Mark E. Van Zandt was given the NOVACES Graduate Award.



NOVACES’ roots are in the University of New Orleans research center and the company provides scholarships to the college in recognition of the importance of grooming future industry leaders. “As part of our company values, we operate under the ‘giving back’ model,” said president of NOVACES Ivan Radovic, who presented the company’s awards at the event.



“The collaboration between our faculty and industry is designed to help achieve the level of excellence expected of a major engineering college,” said Russell E. Trahan, Jr., Ph.D., Dean of the College of Engineering in remarks following the ceremony. “NOVACES is a good example of the kind of support we receive from industry leaders for the college’s student scholarships and awards program.”



The College of Engineering at the University of New Orleans offers a broad selection of degrees through the Ph.D. level. There are four departments in the college, including Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. All the departments offer the Bachelor of Science degree.

MARAD Recognizes Ivan Radovic of NOVACES for Helping to Improve Efficiencies of the US Ready Reserve Fleet

The implementation of Lean Six Sigma tools has resulted in helping to eliminate redundancy and cut excess costs.



New Orleans, LA (PRWEB) April 17, 2009 — During the US Department of Transportation Maritime Administration (MARAD) Annual Ship Managers Executive Meeting, president Ivan Radovic of NOVACES was awarded for outstanding teamwork and enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Ready Reserve Force using the principles of Lean Six Sigma. The event was held at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans.

Lean Six Sigma is a combination of two business improvement techniques. Lean focuses on eliminating waste and reducing cycle time, while Six Sigma focuses on improving quality and reducing variation.



NOVACES, a consulting and training firm headquartered in New Orleans, is providing MARAD with Lean Six Sigma project support. The company has been engaged in Annual Regulatory Inspection and 5-year Special Hull Survey and dry docking Lean Six Sigma projects as mentor and implementation advisor. The award was presented by William Cahill, Director of Ship Operations for the US Maritime Administration.



During his acceptance remarks, Radovic noted that the application of Lean Six Sigma methods can be employed anywhere from scheduling of ships, level loading in the shops, birth transitions and dry docking to safety management and environmental areas. The methodology is a proven way to manage costs and gain efficiency. “Lean Six Sigma projects conducted at MARAD are a true partnership between the public and private sectors leading to significant operational improvements and cost benefits to the US Government,” said Radovic.



The meeting was attended by senior MARAD leadership and executives of ship management companies participating in operating MARAD Ready Reserve Fleet (RRF) vessels. The RRF is managed by private-sector shipping companies and crewed by civilian US mariners. Ships enrolled in the fleet are kept in a state of “advanced readiness” for military sealift use on very short notice. They include fast sealift and roll-on / roll-off ships, modular cargo, heavy lifts and government-owned tankers.
