Linthicum, MD, November 1, 2006 - Implementation of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) is expanding to the commercial shipping industry in the United States. Crowley Maritime Corporation and Horizon Lines are pioneering LSS implementation in the sector as the leads of the LSS project sponsored by the Ship Operations Cooperative Program (SOCP). The project’s interim report was presented at the SOCP membership meeting at MITAGS on November 1, 2006 by Dr. Baha Inozu (NOVACES), CAPT Mike Bohlman (Horizon Lines), CAPT Cole Cosgrove (Crowley) and Nuns Jain, (MARAD). In his closing remarks, Mr. Nuns stated “I was totally amazed at the success we had for this project…made a believer out of me…made a believer out of everybody there in the process … the whole team felt this was the best thing they did.” Mr. Nuns encouraged all SOCP members to consider implementing Lean Six Sigma in their organizations.
